Mukhortova/Blanchard and Volosozhar/Trankov: Who Goes Further?

Thoughts on these new pairings? My verdict is still out there, although I'm a little bit disappointed to see Mukhortova skating to a Secret Garden song again this year. On the other hand, I think this style fits Blanchard more than it worked for Trankov. Volosozhar, as always, is amazing.

They both need work; Maria and Jerome more, but I can forgive him because he hasn't been around for a while.

Tanya and Max SHOULD look good. I would be mad if they looked any worse at this point. I don't know why people expected any different. Yes they have only been a pair for 7 months but they are not new to skating. They were both Olympians (Tanya twice) and both finished 4th at the Worlds at one time or another. The word 'gel' gets thrown around a lot, that it takes time for a new team to 'gel' but seriously, that is really only for juniors and new pairs skaters. Not accomplished elite skaters. Tanya is not always perfect as you can see by the LP, the mistakes were all hers and Max's Olympic SP proves you can't make mistakes when it counts. The score they received for this competition is beyond laughable. Thank God Aliona and Robin weren’t there, they would have scored 250.

Mukhortova/Blanchard looked the very classical russian pairing, Jerome very balletic and they show promise. Mukhortova looks happier with Jerome and they have a lightness and polish about them. I feared when I heard this partnership came about but they have surprised me beyond my expectation. They seemed to have worked hard and I believe they are trained by Oleg Vassiliev?

Volosozhar/Trankov I thought wow when I heard they were getting together, but after seeing this video I was dissapointed and felt for tatiana - when Maxim missed the solo jumps I thought of another stanislav. They looked out of sorts to me, unpolished and sloppy lines, Maxim seems wooden out there and the program was not a good program in terms of musicality, something more powerful with softer middle section might suit them better as tatiana has so much power in those throws. Not sure who they are trained with??

Have to say at this point that they might struggle to make the top 3 at Nationals. You have to say that they are vying for the 3rd spot as Kavaguti/Smirnov and Bazarova/Larionov are in another league this season possibly along with Illeschkina/Maisuradze (sorry for the misspelling) Russell

Tatiana and Maxim are very accomplished skaters, but seriously they are still new to skating with each other. And when you are use to working with one person and you are suddenly working with another person, it can take time to adjust to the new person, no matter HOW great you were with the other person. Here's a great example Tatiana was use to being thrown by someone much stronger than Maxim, and so when she went with Maxim they had to work on a new throw technique. I'm sorry but it absolutely takes time to gell with a new partner if you've been use to skating with someone else for years. Even Ingo Steur said in a new interview that he liked them together, just thought it would take some time for the chemistry to develop as they got use to each other.

Did you watch the same clip as thats up here. Maxim didn't miss a single jump at this competition. That was a previous competition. And look everyone even the most reliable of jumpers (and for the most part Maxim was very reliable in jumps) messes them up once in awhile.

As for their lines once again every time they skate they seem to do better. I agree the program isn't great, but I think right now they are just looking for their style. Its not like Trankov and Volosozhar aren't capable of great lines.

Oops Maxim's jumps did have some little problems (although not major errors Lol!)

I understand it takes time to "gel" but missing a lot of INDIVIDUAL jumps in the three competitions in worriesom. I understand getting to together as a team but having trouble landing an individual double toe? I'm concerned....
